Wow look it’s the first post (again)
Merry Christmas (and a happy New Year)! Welcome to the new (allegedly) and improved (unlikely) Travfolio.
”New Year/New Blog”?
This newest update is an effort to combine three of my passions: art, tabletop role playing, and having strong (largely uneducated) opinions about certain technology. The idea is to keep the original intent of this site (the art galleries) intact while also giving myself a place to log recent TTRPG sessions, talk about and live-learn new technology and software development techniques, and also give me a place to try some of those dev stacks.
Speaking of - this new iteration of the Travfolio is built using Astro. At some point in the last year I became aware of the AHA Stack and was intrigued. I’m a big fan of getting back to basics, but I also enjoy some of the quality-of-life features new web frameworks like Vue offer. As a sidenote, I originally revamped this site early this year using Nue which I LOVE but found was a bit too buggy for my liking.
For me, Astro sits right in the middle of basic, easy-to-read, simple-to-understand HTML and Markdown, while still giving me benefits like reusable code and programatic page generation (like dynamically adding tags to the blog). It’s comfy and that’s important to me. Complex frameworks keep me from wanting to code because it’s difficult to sit down when inspiration strikes and just try stuff out.
Anyway there’s an example of stuff I might write about. There are likely bigger and better and cooler and fancier frameworks out there but Astro feels nice and that’s 90% of software development for me.
Thanks again for stopping by and enjoy!
